Weight Loss and Water!

Just "Google" weight loss and water and you will soon find that most people don't drink enough water - and by water we mean plain old H2O water; not tea, soft drinks wine or coffee - just plain old, magical, water!

WATER - part of your weight loss program?

Whatever your non-water favourite is it will come with lots of additions that just add to hydration problems (caffeine, sugars, alcohol etc) when it comes to dropping that dress size. What you need is plain old water. So, most of us don't drink enough of it then. Well, there's probably nothing new in that but how does it work and what does it mean for us?

WATER and your metabolism!

OK, let's talk metabolism. That's how your body deals with the food you provide it. For us, here, the metabolism of fat is important and that means the liver. Without it weight loss is going to be slow or even non-existent. Simples eh? Just one small problem, your liver also works as a side-car to your kidney's motorbike regarding the removal of toxins. So when your kidneys struggle, if you're not drinking enough water, your liver picks up the slack. This means your liver is not able to metabolise your body fat, which makes losing weight so much harder.

Dehydration and swollen ankles!

There's another side to this as well. Your body stores water for the proverbial rainy day, a bit like a camel without the humps. Water is retained in the ankles, hips and often the tummy and getting rid if it is an important part of your weight loss program. How? Well, you're not going to believe this but you need to drink MORE water.

It goes back to the stored water thingy. Your body stores water in case you hit a drought. So if you convince your body there's no chance of a drought it will release all that stored water. And yes you guessed it, you do that by drinking more of the stuff.

Don't increase the amount you drink and then give up a few days later. This needs to be a new behaviour that you adopt and keep up. If you go back to bad old ways then your body will start to retain water again. You need to convince your body that the water good times are here and keep it convinced. Your body will then think the good times actually are here and get rid of those humpy water stores.

You just watch the pounds shed.
